What did you do yesterday? Or last Sunday? If all your days are the same, then the school, job, errands, and household chores all start to blend into one and become hard to recall. That’s the trouble when you’re stuck in a routine. The days are all the same; they are unmemorable. Time goes by, and you have no idea what happened to summer or how Christmas is so close by.
The secret is to break the pattern and find ways to enjoy life more. Here are a few ways to do that.
1. Learn New Things
Learning does not necessarily mean going back to school. Instead, try to learn something you always wanted to but never got around to it.
You can study plenty of things online, from foreign languages to Thai cuisine or computer programming. Another option is to listen to a podcast during your work commute.
2. Attend free events
Look for free public events where you live; there are likely quite a few but that you never took notice of before. Go online and see what’s happening locally. Perhaps you will attend a concert in the park or an art exhibition.
3. Relax More
No, that doesn’t mean watching TV. Instead, take a night off from your regular schedule and treat yourself. Consider getting yourself a quality cigar and the best cigar cutter to complete the experience.
Pair the cigar with a drink of your choice. Brandy, perhaps, or a bottle of red wine? Make yourself comfortable, put on your favorite music, grab a book or, if you must watch something, pick a classic movie. Perhaps you will watch The Godfather. Those guys really knew about cigars!
4. Take More Trips
It doesn’t have to be a trip around the world, although that would be wonderful. You can squeeze in short trips during the weekend and go visit somewhere nearby.
There are plenty of places you must have heard of and have some idea what they’re like, but you’ve never been there. Explore a nearby forest, visit an old church or perhaps some famous ruins, or simply get some friends together. Speaking of friends, a camping trip together would be fun, too.
5. Make Up Fun Stories
Most people go about their day without taking any notice of others. They don’t look at the people on the bus or those who are in line at the store. They’re immersed in their own thoughts.
If this description sounds familiar, then you don’t know what you’re missing. Try to have a good look at the people around you and make up stories about them. The guy in front of you at the store, who is he talking with on the phone? Is it his wife, or maybe he’s just dating her? That would explain the wine in his cart.
Sounds amusing, right? The world around you doesn’t have to be bland and gray when you can populate it with interesting characters.
If you’re happy with the stories you come up with, why not write them, too? Join one of the many writing communities online and put your imagination to work.
Final Words on Enjoying Life More
Choose whatever you want, just don’t let another day go by without doing something you truly enjoy. Life is short, so you might as well have fun!
